Katrina, 2:30 a.m.

Light rain, now, pretty steady in Baton Rouge. The winds gust, then everything stills a moment, then more gusts.

It looks like the hurricane's back down to a Cat 4, though that's little comfort.

I really should try to sleep. There's a longing to go close my eyes and feel safe in my own bed, and then there's the awareness that the storm is heading in now, and will be here (essentially) by morning, and if I stay awake, it'll be better. You know, because if I stay awake, I'll somehow be able to keep it from hitting here as hard. (Well, one can dream.)

My geography of the US is sadly lacking - the news coverage here is focussing primarily on New Orleans and it was only when I read a longer news report that I realised that you guys might be affected too.

So I'm thinking of you, hoping that there's no damage to property but especially that you, Carl and the boys stay safe and dry.

lol, I can't help but think (one, I'm very grateful that you are blogging all this so we know how you are) that you are gonna have a shit load of e-mails to return! :P

It's 5:13am.....you've only been asleep for a few hours... I can only pray that whatever dreams you are dreaming right now are sweet ones and that the hell you wake up to is only on the outter rings and not the inner depths.

As I'm reading all your updates all I can think to do for you besides saying a little prayer (hear's Dionne Warwick in the background) for you is grabbing my blankie and pet rock and curling up and going back to sleep till it's all over for you.

Make sure you keep us up to date on the goings on!

Love ya!

Shan
