Katrina, more damage info

News reporters who had made their way into Mandeville earlier today just now made their way back to the station in Baton Rouge. They actually tried to call in this report two hours ago, but there were no working phones in the area.

They're showing footage right now -- lots of trees down, power lines down on the road. (Some wires are live and it's not clear which are and which aren't.) The police have all entrances into Mandeville closed and are not going to be letting anyone go into Mandeville until the road crews / electric crews can get in there. There's water standing in some areas -- closer into to Covington and the Tchefuncta River. (I have no idea if I spelled that right -- that's the spelling I see on Google.) They're saying that most of the damage they saw is from wind, not water (at least in the areas they could get to).

Thank you so much for the updates on St. Tammany! I think they will find that many many people did not evacuate from Slidell. I know people who did not.

Thank you for posting info about St. Tammany. I've heard little to nothing....and I have family there that chose not to evacuate that I cannot get in contact with.

I heard that the Movie Theatre and Books-A-Million in Covington was/is destroyed. They are off of 190.

Just more info.

Thanks for posting a little about Mandeville. My good friend was evacuating on Sunday, but she didn't even know where they were going at the time. She didn't expect to come home to a neighborhood, much less a house. It seems that Katrina turned slightly, and I'm hoping my friend comes home to little damage. I will search your blog for news of Mandeville. Thank you.

This is the first helpful information about Mandeville. Thanks so much. Does anyone know if the roads into Mandeville are open yet?

Please give me any info on Mandeville especially how I can contact any officials to check on my elderly mother and invalid sister who did not evacuate.

The are at 2535 Livingston St. in a small wooden house.

They are the only house on this small street and are completely surrounded by trees.

I'm trying to find the whereabouts of my God Mother, Ruby Tharratt, from Mandeville. She has lived there since the mid-60's, originally from England. I'm concerned for her safety as her house is surrounded by large trees. If anyone knows of where she is, could you please let me know?? She lives very near the Causeway exit.

I have gone back to Mandeville. Lots of trees and power lines were down with Old Mandeville area seeming to have more of this. We were able to go into our home in Greenleaves and get some things. Water was on but no electricity. Lots of trees down in the area and on some on houses. Don't know if there were any deaths in the Mandeville area but, if so, very few. As far as I know, probably any water damage would have been close to the Lake. We did not get down very far because of some trees down and electric power down. Look up St. Tammany Parish Sherrif's office
for information from them. Phone # for storm related questions is (985) 898-2323
