For those of you looking for more specific information on Slidell -- I'll keep posting here as much as I find out, but you may also want to check out this terrific resource from Brian Oberkirch:
I'll report back on the Mandeville area this evening -- as much as we can see, which I'm not sure how much that will be.
ADDENDUM: I'm closing comments on this entry because someone keeps spamming the comments section. I wish I didn't have to do this, since some of you are still communicating through here. If you have information you want me to pass along, check the e-mail address described in the left hand column and I'll be happy to post it for you.
Posted by toni at August 31, 2005 07:55 AMThank you for the updates and God bless you and your friends and relatives. I'm running updates over on my blog as well & I'm headed back that way right now to include a link over to your site. I heard your blog being talked about on 950 KPRC AM in Houston this moring. The world is watching, listening, and praying with the people affected by Hurricane Katrina. Direct link to my site is http://buildingamystery. cjb. net (but your comment spam filter won't let me post it for some reason)
Posted by: Mystery at August 31, 2005 09:11 AMMy father was in Mandeville yesterday afternoon checking on his house in the Fountainbleau subdivision. That area had no flooding. They did have massive tree damage to the entire area with downed power lines everywhere. He drove in down Hwy 59 and Hwy 22. No flooding.....just the downed trees and power lines. Traffic was moving fine through the area.......just tree dodging.
Posted by: Mark at August 31, 2005 09:26 AMMy sister's family lives in Mandeville in Chateau Village on Kimberly Ann Drive. My brother-in-law was able to make the drive there from Pensacola yesterday by getting behind a volunteer fireman and helping him clear trees from the road. It took many, many hours, but he is at his home. There was no flooding and little damage to the house, but many trees are down everywhere. He did not see a lot of damage to homes in Chateau Village; it's just a mess because of the wind damage to trees. The water and natural gas line are working, although he does not know if the water is contaminated. Of course there is no electricity. He cannot go anywhere else because there are no open gas stations and he's on empty. He said he saw one other guy in the neighborhood yesterday.
